Notice of Intent (Sole Source)

This notice announces the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Western Fisheries Research Center's intent to enter into a sole source procurement contract with Biomark, LLC for Passive Integrated Transponder (PIT) tag detection equipment. This equipment is required to support fisheries monitoring activities, specifically for monitoring juvenile salmon movement in the Klamath River basin as part of an existing PIT detection monitoring array.

The equipment must be compatible with existing PIT detection infrastructure to ensure consistent performance and data continuity. Market research identified Biomark, LLC as the only source capable of meeting these specific compatibility and operational requirements. Biomark manufactures and sells the equipment directly.

Sources Sought Notice

This notice is issued by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Western Fisheries Research Center (WFRC) to conduct market research for submersible PIT tag detection equipment. The goal is to identify qualified small businesses capable of supplying this equipment to support fisheries monitoring operations. This is for market research purposes only and does not constitute a solicitation or commitment to award a contract.

The USGS requires submersible PIT tag detection equipment for monitoring PIT-tagged fish during seasonal migration studies. The equipment must operate autonomously in aquatic environments and integrate with existing PIT detection infrastructure. Key components include:

• Submersible rigid PIT tag antennas

• Receiver nodes and associated detection electronics

• Submersible battery systems and charging equipment

• Associated components for deployment and operation The equipment must support long-duration deployment and reliable PIT tag detection and data storage.

• Acoustic Transmitters (Tags): Weight 3.5-3.7g, BPSK coded signals, 0-40°C operating temp, 69 kHz ± 0.5% frequency, 146 dB acoustic output. Optional temperature sensor.

• Acoustic Receivers: Detect/store 69 kHz BPSK tags, millions of records capacity, autonomous battery operation, waterproof to 700m, Bluetooth connectivity, 0-50°C operating temp, minimum one-year warranty.

• Acoustic Receiver Activation Probe: Activates Bluetooth, allows configuration, operates 0-50°C, minimum one-year warranty.

• PIT Tag Receiver System: 5-foot diameter submersible antenna, detects ISO-compliant FDX-B and HDX PIT tags, 134.2 kHz operating frequency. Autonomous, waterproof, >30 days battery, >100,000 tag IDs storage, Bluetooth connectivity, -20 to 70°C operating temp, minimum one-year warranty.

Interested small businesses should address:
