Quick Summary
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), specifically the National Contracting Office No. 16, has issued a Request for Information (RFI) to identify qualified businesses capable of providing a Medication Remote Dispensing System (RDS) for the Alexandria VA Medical Center's (AVAMC) Lake Charles CBOC facility in Louisiana. The VA is actively seeking alternative equipment and distributors to the currently identified Pick Point Remote Dispensing System. Responses are due by February 27, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. CST.
Purpose
This RFI serves as a market research tool to determine the interest, capabilities, and qualifications of potential contractors. The information gathered will help the VA assess potential small business set-aside opportunities and inform future acquisition strategies for a firm-fixed-price contract. This is not a solicitation and does not commit the government to any contract.
Scope of Work
The requirement is for a large cabinet Remote Dispensing System (RDS) designed to securely store, dispense urgent and emergent medications, and manage inventory for patients at the Lake Charles CBOC, which lacks on-site pharmacy services. Key deliverables include:
- One (1) large cabinet RDS, including installation, training, and shipping.
- 24/7 toll-free technical support, troubleshooting, and operational guidance.
- All necessary labor, parts, and expenses for installation, maintenance, and repair.
- Development and presentation of a detailed work plan.
Performance Standards
The system must:
- Interface with the Vista Outpatient Pharmacy Package (OPAI) and CPRS.
- Dispense prepackaged medications via barcode validation based on verified outpatient orders.
- Comply with Joint Commission Medication Management standards (MM 05.01.09) and internal VA safety procedures.
- Operate on Windows 10 and be capable of storing and tracking refrigerated items.
- Provide secure internal storage for at least 90 line items with a total capacity of at least 900 packages, accommodating various package sizes in original packaging.
- Feature a double locking mechanism or greater.
- Generate reports for inventory, expiration, removal, and dispensing from a central location.
- Have physical dimensions not exceeding 41"W x 35.2"D x 73"H and a user-friendly software interface.

Additional Notes
While the draft Statement of Work identifies the "Pick Point Remote Dispensing System" as a brand-name item, the RFI explicitly seeks alternative equipment and distributors. The system is intended for the Lake Charles CBOC, with delivery to the Alexandria VA Health Care System warehouse in Pineville, LA. This RFI is for market research only; a future solicitation will be synopsized on SAM.gov if released.
