Quick Summary
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), specifically the VA Puget Sound Health Care System (VAPSHCS) in Seattle, is conducting a Sources Sought to identify qualified sources for molecular testing of indeterminate thyroid nodules. This requirement is for a potential 5-year contract to assist in assessing thyroid nodule FNA specimens and stratifying patients. Responses are due July 1, 2026.
Scope of Work
The requirement is for molecular testing services for Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) specimens from thyroid nodules diagnosed as "indeterminate" (Follicular Lesion of Uncertain Significance or Follicular Neoplasm). The testing aims to stratify nodules into low-risk (benign) and high-risk for malignancy to potentially avoid unnecessary surgeries. The contractor must provide transport media, packaging, and postage for overnight shipment of specimens. The molecular test must have high specificity and sensitivity for malignancy, utilizing a comprehensive panel of thyroid-related genes (including BRAF, RAS, TERT, RET, NTRK, and ALK). Results must be reported within seven (7) business days. Approximately 120 molecular tests are anticipated annually.

Special Requirements
The contractor must adhere to strict VA information confidentiality, privacy, and security laws. A Business Associate Agreement (BAA) will be required. Sensitive VA information must be stored, transported, or transmitted in encrypted form (FIPS 140-2 validated).
