Quick Summary
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Northern Indiana Healthcare System (NIHCS), intends to award a sole source, firm fixed-price contract to CareFusion Solutions, LLC (OEM) for a five-month follow-on lease of Pyxis ES Medstation Equipment. This lease is crucial for maintaining medication dispensing services at VA facilities in Marion, Ft. Wayne, and the Jackie Walorski Clinic. This is a Notice of Intent to Sole Source, not a request for competitive proposals. Responses demonstrating clear and convincing evidence that competition would be advantageous are due by March 13, 2026, 5:00 PM EST.
Scope of Work
This requirement is for a five-month follow-on lease of Pyxis ES Medstation Equipment, including associated lease and support for:
- Fort Wayne Codonics Lease/Support

The equipment provides computerized dispensing of medication for up to 143 beds, ensuring rapid access, on-site dispensing, and secure, accountable medication management. It supports 24/7, 100% accountable dispensing at the point of patient care. This follow-on lease bridges the gap during the transition to new equipment, as the existing Pyxis equipment has been in place since 2019.

Set-Aside & Justification
This is a sole source procurement. Market research did not identify any Small Disadvantaged Businesses (SDB) or other small businesses capable of providing the specific leased equipment. While authorized distributors were identified, they could only offer quotes for purchasing, not leasing. Therefore, an exclusive set-aside for small businesses is not permitted. The government believes only CareFusion Solutions, LLC (the OEM) possesses the required capabilities. The procurement is justified under Simplified Acquisition Procedures and FAR Part 6.103-1, Only One Responsible Source, citing FAR 13.5 and 41 U.S.C. § 1901.
Submission & Evaluation
This notice is not a request for competitive proposals or offers, and no solicitation package is available. The government intends to negotiate with only CareFusion Solutions, LLC. Any interested party must submit clear and convincing evidence that competition would be advantageous to the Government.
