Statement of Need (SON)

To enhance patient safety and strengthen competency-based education by providing a high-fidelity, measurable, and repeatable surgical training environment for ophthalmic surgical skills.

Procurement, installation, training, and sustainment of the HS Simulation Eyesi Surgical Complete System. This is a "name brand only" requirement. The contractor must provide all labor, equipment, materials, licenses, installation, configuration, testing, training, documentation, and warranty/support services.

• Simulator Design: Fully integrated, self-contained ophthalmic microsurgery workstation with adjustable height operating table, integrated surgical stereo microscope, and a stable, medical-grade frame.

• Dimensions & Weight: Approximately 54" H x 46" W x 28" D, with a total mass of approximately 64 kg.

• Integrated Components: Touch-sensitive display, enclosed Simulator PC with VR software, modular instrument holder (cataract and vitreoretinal), dual-pedal system, and surgical interface microscope head.

• Electrical: Standard 100-230V AC, 50/60 Hz power input.

• Environmental: Operating temperature 0-30°C, up to 80% non-condensing humidity.

• Optional Components: Widefield optics for vitreoretinal surgery, wrist rest.

• Functional Characteristics: High-fidelity VR environment with real-time responsiveness, haptic fidelity, and performance analytics. Supports cataract and vitreoretinal training.

• Realistic Simulation: High-resolution stereoscopic visualization, realistic tissue behavior modeling (capsular dynamics, lens interactions, etc.), and realistic instrument interaction with force feedback.

• Training Modules: Covers basic skills, cataract surgery (including complication management), and vitreoretinal surgery.

• Performance Scoring: Automated, objective, real-time scoring including instrument path accuracy, tremor control, tissue handling, efficiency, force application, and longitudinal trainee tracking.

• Safety: Simulator uses no patient data and is not a medical device; compliant with electrical and safety directives.

• Training: On-site training provided by the contractor.

• Place of Performance: James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital (JAHVH).

• Warranty: Minimum one-year warranty covering parts and labor.

• Delivery: Estimated delivery time is 3-4 weeks after receipt of order.

• Software: Operates using Haag-Streit Simulation's proprietary VR software platform.
