Quick Summary

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), specifically the VA North Texas Health Care System (VANTHCS), is conducting market research through a Sources Sought Notice to identify capable vendors for a Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization Time of Flight Mass Spectrometry Biotyper System (MALDI TOF). This system is required for rapid organism identification in the Microbiology Laboratory in Dallas, TX. Responses are due by April 20, 2026.

Scope of Work

VANTHCS requires the outright purchase of one MALDI TOF Biotyper instrument and associated operating software. The system must support high-throughput, rapid identification of bacteria, fungi, and mycobacteria. Key requirements include:

  • A true benchtop system (approx. 165 lbs, small footprint, low noise).
  • Instrument-specific proprietary software (e.g., MBT Compass HT, MBT Explorer, MBT HT Mycobacteria, MBT HT Subtyping) with future upgrades.
  • Direct compatibility and LIS integration with existing Beckman Coulter Microscan 96 plus / LabPro MBT systems, without additional middleware.
  • FDA-cleared testing for bacteria (in vitro diagnostic use, CLIA high or moderately complex).
  • Capability to identify bacteria in less than one hour from prepared target to result.
  • Installation, verification/validation, initial technical assistance, and onsite training for Clinical Laboratory Scientists.
  • Provision of an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) and all operational/maintenance manuals. Note: Reagents and consumable supplies will be procured separately.
