Quick Summary

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is conducting market research through a Sources Sought notice to identify qualified businesses capable of providing structural geology software licensing, maintenance, and technical support. This software is crucial for understanding geologic evolution and locating critical minerals in northeastern Washington. Capability statements are due by April 20, 2026, at 0800 PST.

Purpose & Scope

The USGS requires structural geology software for data integration, forward and reverse cross-section modeling, and kinematic restoration and validation. The objective is to analyze the geologic evolution and time-temperature/time-depth history of the northeastern Washington region to determine the location and formation history of potential critical minerals.

Key capabilities include:

  • Importing, scaling, and georeferencing 2-D cross-sections.
  • Forward and reverse modeling of fault motion, uplift, loading, erosion, unloading, sediment accumulation, and sediment loading.
  • Assigning different densities and physical properties of mantle and crustal rocks.
  • Creating, recording, and exporting large point clouds for integration into thermal models.

Technical Requirements

The software must support the import and integration of various data types, including digital field data, DEMs, seismic data, well/borehole data, geological maps, point clouds, volume data, annotated field images, scanned cross-sections, gravity/magnetic data, voxet, ASCII, GIS shape, and DXF files. It must also feature tools for restoring and forward modeling cross-sections, a specific module for displacement analysis and fault validity testing, and capabilities for modeling block restoration, flexural slip, simple shear, trishear, fault parallel flow, fault bend folding, and elliptical fault flow. Distribution rights for the latest software version are required.

Deliverables

  • Structural geology modeling software.
  • USB key license.
  • Annual maintenance of the software and technical support.
