First Article Testing (FAT)
A First Article Test (FAT) is mandatory, estimated at $12,000, which will be added to the offeror's price. The FAT includes a 100% production leak test (with an 18-inch free fall drop and pressure test), dimensional inspection, and verification of form, fit, and function against the specified drawing. The contractor must deliver one FAT unit within 120 calendar days. The Government will provide approval or disapproval within 60 days of receipt. Waiver of FAT may be granted for offerors who have previously supplied identical production units within three years, using the same production facility, and can provide a certification. Offerors requesting a waiver must submit two separate prices: one with FAT compliance and one based on a waiver.
