Quick Summary
The Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (AFLCMC) intends to award a sole-source, firm-fixed-price contract to the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) for the annual ABET Accreditation Maintenance for the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. Interested parties must submit capability statements by June 3, 2026, 11:00 AM EST.
Purpose & Justification
This Special Notice announces the AFLCMC's intent to award a sole-source contract to ABET. The justification is that ABET is the sole recognized accreditor for college and university programs in applied and natural science, computing, engineering, and engineering technology. Their specialized and proprietary accreditation process, in place for AFIT's programs since 1963, makes them the only source capable of maintaining accreditation for seven of AFIT's engineering and applied science programs. Market research confirmed ABET as the only source, and a previous Sources Sought notice received no responses. This acquisition is authorized under RFO 6.103-1, "Only one responsible source."
Scope of Work
The contractor will provide annual ABET Accreditation Maintenance services. This includes reviewing, assessing, and evaluating seven (7) of AFIT's engineering and applied science programs for accreditation maintenance. Services involve delivering standard reports based on ABET's standard schedule of reviews and board decision processes, with evaluation based on criteria established by associated professional societies. A Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) Level 1 certification is required for the duration of the contract.
