Fit reasons
- NAICS alignment with historical contract wins in similar service areas.
- Scope strongly matches core technical capabilities and delivery model.
Risks
- Past performance thresholds may require one additional teaming partner.
- Potential clarification needed on staffing minimums before bid/no-bid.
Next steps
Validate eligibility requirements, assign capture owner, and schedule partner outreach to confirm teaming strategy before submission planning.
Quick Summary
The Department of the Treasury, Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP), is conducting market research through a Sources Sought notice for an Additive Manufacturing System. This is to identify qualified sources capable of providing and installing a modern, industrial-grade system to support rapid prototyping and production of machine components at its Washington D.C. facility. Responses are due by June 1, 2026.
Purpose
This is a Sources Sought announcement for market research purposes only and is not a request for bids, quotes, or proposals. The Government will not issue an award from this notice. The Treasury Common Services Center (TCSC) seeks information from interested parties regarding their capability to provide the described additive manufacturing system. The NAICS code for this potential requirement is 333248 – All Other Industrial Machinery Manufacturing.
Scope of Requirement
The BEP requires a new industrial-grade additive manufacturing system to replace an obsolete unit, enhancing operational efficiency and continuity in currency manufacturing. The system will support the design and fabrication of both prototype and production components, enabling rapid conversion of CAD models to physical parts and the creation of complex parts not feasible through conventional methods. It will also facilitate the manufacturing of small-scale or one-off parts that are challenging or costly to machine traditionally.
Key System Specifications
The required system must be modular with user-replaceable extrusion nozzles, feature an open-material architecture, and have a build envelope of at least 400 x 350 x 400 mm. It must be compatible with 230VAC, 3W, 30Amp electrical configurations and include an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS). Other critical features include continuous and reliable material feed, an actively heated chamber capable of maintaining a minimum of 90° Celsius, compatibility with 3D Standard Template Library (STL) files, and a water-based support removal cleaning station. Performance requirements include a dimensional accuracy of ±0.25 mm, parts machinable to produce functional threads, a minimum tensile strength of 30 MPa, and an impact strength of at least 50 J/m. The requirement also includes turn-key installation, two days of software training, two days of operator training for up to five BEP employees, and comprehensive documentation (Product Manual, Service/Maintenance Schedule, Spare Parts Listing). A one-year warranty on machinery and parts, with options for four additional one-year extended warranty periods, is also required. Delivery and installation are expected within nine (9) months of contract award.
Response Requirements
Interested parties are requested to submit a Capability Statement that includes:
- The Sources Sought number: BEP-SSN-2031ZA26N00034.
- Company name, address, contact information, applicable NAICS codes, business size, socioeconomic designations, and UEI Number.
- Technical point of contact information.
- Confirmation of the company's capability to provide and install the additive manufacturing system as described in the Statement of Work.
- A product/system summary, including the place of manufacture or origin.
- General manufacturing and delivery times.
Submission Details
Capability Statements must be emailed in Portable Document Format (PDF) to erica.hemphill@treasury.gov. Telephone responses will not be accepted.
