Quick Summary
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), New York District, has issued an Advance Notice for maintenance dredging of the New York and New Jersey Channels, Seguine/Ward/Outerbridge Federal Navigation Project. This unrestricted procurement is estimated to cost between $5,000,000 and $15,000,000. Plans are expected in April 2026, with bid opening in May 2026.
Scope of Work
The project involves dredging selected critical shoals to a depth of -35 feet Mean Lower Low Water (MLLW) plus 2-foot allowable overdepth. Approximately 330,000 cubic yards (CY) of material, primarily silt and sand, will be removed from the Seguine/Ward/Outerbridge reaches. The dredged material will be placed at the Historic Area Remediation Site (HARS).
Due to State Water Quality Certificate restrictions, the work will likely require a mechanical dredge with an environmental clamshell bucket. Multiple ocean-going, bottom-dumping barges, tugboats, and survey vessels will also be needed. All dredging and placement activities must comply with federal, state, and approved local criteria.
