Justification & Intent
The Government intends to procure these items under the authority of 10 USC 2304(c)(1), FAR 6.302-1, citing The Timken Company as the only approved OEM source. Timken is the sole vendor with the required source data for this CSI item and source-controlled drawing. Engineering was unable to identify another vendor capable of producing a bearing that meets all technical requirements, as it is a vendor item control drawing (VICD) and not a build-to-print drawing.
This notice is not a request for competitive proposals. However, the Government will consider all responses received within fifteen days of publication. A determination by the Government not to open the requirement to competition based on responses is solely at its discretion. Information received will be used to determine whether to conduct a competitive procurement.
