Fit reasons
- NAICS alignment with historical contract wins in similar service areas.
- Scope strongly matches core technical capabilities and delivery model.
Risks
- Past performance thresholds may require one additional teaming partner.
- Potential clarification needed on staffing minimums before bid/no-bid.
Next steps
Validate eligibility requirements, assign capture owner, and schedule partner outreach to confirm teaming strategy before submission planning.
Quick Summary
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has issued a Special Notice indicating its intent to award a firm-fixed price purchase order on a sole source basis to Aerotech, Inc. for motorized stages required for the development of a spectral response detector calibration system. This is a Notice of Intent, not a request for quotation. Responses from interested parties are due by April 28, 2026, at 10:00 AM Eastern Time.
Purpose & Justification
NIST's Physical Measurement Laboratory (PML) Sensor Science Division (SSD) is collaborating with the U.S. Air Force on CCG Project 797 to develop an improved spectral response detector calibration system. The existing Air Force system utilizes proprietary Aerotech, Inc. equipment. To ensure scientific continuity, accuracy, precision, and repeatability in ongoing research, NIST requires further Aerotech, Inc. equipment. Aerotech, Inc. does not authorize resellers, making them the only capable contractor for this requirement. This acquisition is conducted under the authority of FAR 12.102(a) and 41 USC 1901.
Scope of Work
The contractor shall provide NIST with the following new equipment:
- One X-axis motorized stage with 400 mm travel, ±1.5 µm accuracy, and up to 7 kg payload.
- One Y-axis motorized stage with 150 mm travel, ±1.5 µm accuracy, and up to 7 kg payload.
- One rotary stage with 360° rotation, ≤ 0.05° accuracy, ≤ 0.001° resolution, and up to 1 kg payload.
- One rotary motor with a velocity of 90 deg/s.
- All necessary software, support hardware, and cables for the use of these components.
Used, remanufactured, experimental, prototype, or custom items will not be considered. All products must have a USA place of origin.
