Quick Summary

The Department of the Air Force (AFMETCAL) at Heath, OH, intends to award a Sole Source Firm Fixed Price (FFP) contract to Isotech North America for three Metrology Furnaces for the Air Force Primary Standards Laboratory (AFPSL). This notice is a Notice of Intent to Sole Source, not a request for competitive proposals.

Scope of Work

The requirement is for three metrology furnaces used to calibrate standard platinum thermometers. These furnaces are needed for tin fixed point, zinc fixed point, and annealing applications. They must be compatible with existing proprietary fixed-point tin and zinc cells currently in use at AFPSL. The anticipated quantity is three unit upgrades over a one-year period.

Contract & Justification

  • Type: Sole Source Firm Fixed Price (FFP) under Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP).
  • Set-Aside: None (Sole Source).
  • Justification: Only Isotech North America can provide furnaces compatible with the existing proprietary fixed-point cells without substantial duplication of costs. Other manufacturers' furnaces are not compatible. The current equipment is over 20 years old and no longer supported. A copy of the approved Justification & Approval (J&A) is available.

Response & Future Plans

This is not a request for competitive proposals or quotations. No solicitation package will be issued. However, all responsible sources may submit a capability statement, proposal, or quotation with clear and convincing evidence of their ability to provide the required item. Such submissions will be considered by AFMETCAL.

  • Response Due: April 6, 2026.
  • Submission: Electronic submissions only.
  • Future Procurements: Future acquisitions for this calibration equipment are planned to be solicited through full and open competition, following a market survey.
