Fit reasons
- NAICS alignment with historical contract wins in similar service areas.
- Scope strongly matches core technical capabilities and delivery model.
Risks
- Past performance thresholds may require one additional teaming partner.
- Potential clarification needed on staffing minimums before bid/no-bid.
Next steps
Validate eligibility requirements, assign capture owner, and schedule partner outreach to confirm teaming strategy before submission planning.
Quick Summary
NASA's Shared Services Center (NSSC) intends to award a sole source contract to NIKON AM SYNERGY INC. for the "Aheadd CP-1 NXG Build". This requirement involves manufacturing Aheadd CP-1 material testing and characterization specimens using a Nikon SLM Solutions NXG additive manufacturing machine. The purpose is to evaluate the material for cryogenic fluid management (CFM) components and to characterize material produced on large-scale laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) machines. Interested organizations capable of fulfilling this requirement must submit written capabilities and qualifications by March 12, 2026, at 7 a.m. Central Standard Time.
Purpose & Rationale
This Special Notice announces NASA's intent to procure an "Aheadd CP-1 NXG Build" on a sole source basis from NIKON AM SYNERGY INC., citing FAR 13.106-1(b)(1)(i). The rationale for this sole source determination is that Nikon AM Synergy Inc. is identified as the only commercial vendor currently installed, qualified, and printing on the specified Nikon SLM Solutions NXG machine. Using another vendor would result in an inability to adequately represent the process, ensure comparability of material performance, and could lead to evaluation shortfalls, additional costs, and schedule delays impacting FY26 milestones.
Scope of Work
The Statement of Work (SOW) details the manufacturing of Aheadd CP-1 material testing and characterization specimens. Key tasks include:
- Developing a build layout, specimen matrix, and build files, subject to NASA review.
- Processing provided build files using best practices for highest feasible resolution.
- Printing labels on all specimens with build and specimen numbers.
- De-powdering specimens and removing them from the build plate in the as-built condition.
- NASA will provide the detailed specimen matrix and specimen files.
Deliverables & Performance
- Deliverables: Printed Aheadd CP-1 specimens as per the specimen matrix, along with build pedigree documentation (powder certificate of conformance, laser assignment, and parameters).
- Period of Performance: Ten (10) weeks from the contract award date.
- Place of Performance: NASA Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC), Huntsville, AL.
- NAICS Code: 334519.
Submission & Evaluation
- Submission Deadline: March 12, 2026, 7 a.m. Central Standard Time.
- Submission Method: Interested organizations must submit written capabilities and qualifications to the identified point of contact. Oral communications are not acceptable.
- Evaluation: Submitted capabilities will be evaluated solely to determine if the procurement should be competed on a competitive basis. The government reserves the sole discretion to determine whether to compete this proposed effort.
