Quick Summary
The Department of the Air Force is conducting a Request for Information (RFI) for the B-52 Radar Pressurization Unit (RPU) Compressor AC Motor. This market research aims to identify potential non-commercial sources to develop a new procurement source for this critical component. The government is exploring the possibility of a competitive award, including total or partial Small Business Set-Aside. Responses are due by close of business on June 6, 2026.
Purpose
This RFI serves as market research to identify non-commercial sources for the B-52 RPU Compressor AC Motor (NSN: 6105-00-870-7919, PN: 35YH68). The goal is to determine if a future contract can be competitively awarded and/or designated as a total or partial Small Business Set-Aside. The government currently lacks ownership of the technical data required for manufacturing and finds it uneconomical to acquire.
Scope of Work / Requirements
The requirement is for 90 units of the RPU Compressor AC Motor. Contractors must develop a new source of supply, furnishing all sub-components, material, support equipment, tools, test equipment, and services. The motor must meet form, fit, function, and interface requirements as referenced in T.O. 15A3-3-24-4. Services also include obsolete parts resolution and engineering support for Deficiency Reports and Material Improvement Projects. Interested sources must maintain facilities and cleared personnel for handling information and operating systems up to Secret classification.
Key Specifications
The RPU Compressor AC Motor has the following key technical specifications:
- Input Power: 115 Volts AC, 1-phase, 400 Hz
- Output: 48 HP @ 7200 +/- 10% RPM
- Weight: 2 lb. 15 oz.
Contract & Timeline
- Type: Request for Information (RFI) / Sources Sought
- NAICS Code: 335312 (Motor and Generator Manufacturing)
- Small Business Size Standard: 1250 employees
- Set-Aside: Exploring total or partial Small Business Set-Aside; both large and small businesses, including joint ventures and teaming arrangements, are encouraged to participate.
- Response Due: June 6, 2026 (close of business)
- Published: May 5, 2026
Submission & Evaluation
Responses should include documentation supporting the company's capability to meet the requirements, particularly experience in developing manufacturing capability without a government-provided technical data package. Companies should also identify any work areas suitable for Small Business set-aside. Responses will be treated as information only for planning and budgetary forecasting, not as proposals.
Additional Notes
Participation in this RFI does not guarantee future solicitations or contract awards, and the government will not reimburse participants for expenses. A detailed Contractor Capability Survey is provided, requesting information on business details, general capabilities, repair experience, commerciality, continuity of operations, cybersecurity, and foreign influence.
