Quick Summary
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Nashville District, is conducting a Request for Information (RFI)/Sources Sought for an Emergency Gate Machinery Inspection at the Barkley Lock in Grand Rivers, KY. This market research aims to identify qualified firms, including small businesses, capable of providing comprehensive inspection, maintenance, and reassembly services for the lock's lifting machinery. Responses are due by March 23, 2026.
Purpose & Scope
This RFI is for market research and planning purposes only, not a solicitation. The Nashville District seeks to understand industry capabilities for furnishing all labor, equipment, fuel, transportation, tools, and supplies necessary for the specified work. The project involves cleaning, disassembling/reassembling, and inspecting all lifting machinery for the Barkley Lock Emergency Lift Gate. This includes, but is not limited to, limit switch assemblies, motors, enclosed and open gears, gear mounting assemblies, drums, sheaves, wire rope, brakes, shaft bearings, couplings, and control equipment.
Key Requirements & Deliverables
Respondents will be required to provide initial inspection reports with pictures of deficiencies and as-built reports after completion. Touch-up painting for exterior surfaces is also required. New oil, grease, filters, fasteners, and keys will be needed to ensure the Emergency Gate machinery is ready for operation. The draft technical specifications detail procedures for various components, including Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) for gear teeth and other parts. While repairs are not in the base scope, contractors must develop a list of recommended repairs and associated costs. A Quality Control Plan (QCP) is mandatory, along with adherence to EM 385-1-1 (Safety and Occupational Health) and specific project site security, AT/OPSEC procedures.
