• Cut stumps to no more than 4" tall.

• Prune lower branches on remaining live trees to 6' or 1/3 of tree height.

• Scatter cut material a minimum of 50' from roads, trails, and fencelines.

• Material should be dispersed lightly and evenly, not in concentrated piles.

• Cut material should be limbed, lopped, and scattered below sagebrush height, with no cut material exceeding 18 inches off the ground.

• Hand cutting tools (chainsaws, brush cutters) are permitted; self-propelled cutters/chippers are not.

• Work is on slopes up to 10%.

Performance Work Statement (PWS)

To reduce concentrations of live and dead Pinyon Pine and Juniper trees on approximately 824 acres of Bureau of Land Management (BLM) land south of Montrose, Colorado.

• Lop and scatter live and dead Pinyon/Juniper (PJ) trees with a diameter at root collar height (DRCH) less than or equal to 6 inches, and/or trees less than or equal to 8 feet tall.

• Stumps must be no more than 4 inches tall (uphill side) and have no live limbs remaining.

• Lower branches on remaining live trees (over 8 feet tall) must be pruned to 6 feet or 1/3 of tree height, ensuring remaining trees are undamaged.

• Cut material must be scattered a minimum of 50 feet from roads, trails, and fencelines.

• Material should be dispersed lightly and evenly, not left in concentrated piles.

• Trees must be cut close to the ground with no live branches remaining.

• Cut trees must be limbed, lopped, and scattered below sagebrush height, with no cut material exceeding 18 inches off the ground.

• Hand cutting tools (gasoline/battery powered or non-powered) are permitted. Self-propelled cutters/chippers are not allowed.

• Travel off existing roads and trails is only permitted on foot.

• Project area is located approximately 10 miles south of Montrose, CO.

• Work completion is no later than 30 days after start, between September 1 and October 13, 2026.

• Work operations creating audible disturbances are limited to 8:00 AM - 5:30 PM Mountain Standard Time.

• Access to project site is via county and BLM roads; off-road vehicle travel is not allowed. Access to cutting units is by foot.
