Quick Summary
The USDA Forest Service is conducting a Sources Sought for Boardwalk Deck Lumber for a project at Juniper Springs, Silver Springs, FL. This market research aims to identify suppliers capable of providing specific hardwood decking materials and to verify compliance with the Buy American Act (BAA). Responses are due March 23, 2026.
Scope of Work
The Forest Service requires approximately 3,750 square feet (7,500 linear feet) of 5/4 x 6" x 6" Boardwalk Deck Lumber. The lumber must be hardwood with a modulus of elasticity not less than 3,129,000 PSI, bending strength not less than 25,963 PSI, and shear strength not less than 2,048 PSI. Approved hardwoods include IPE/bethabara, cumaru, and macaranduba; greenheart and angelm vermelho/dinizia excelsum are not acceptable.
A critical requirement is a detailed cost breakdown to verify BAA compliance. This breakdown must include:
- Name of Material
- Country of Origin
- Cost for raw product
- Transportation cost to import material
- Customs, duties, taxes
- Cost of finishing
- Any other manufacturing costs
Acceptable documentation includes bills of lading, shipping manifests, invoices, and country-of-origin marking from previous projects. Simply stating BAA compliance is insufficient.
