Quick Summary
The University of California, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL), on behalf of the Department of Energy (DOE), has issued RFP No. AA-2026-04 for Beam Position Monitor (BPM) Semi Rigid Cables for the ALS-U project. This opportunity seeks approximately 1,120 high-frequency, low-loss semi-rigid coaxial cable assemblies. Proposals are due May 5, 2026.
Opportunity Overview
LBNL is seeking qualified offerors to manufacture, assemble, test, and deliver critical BPM jumper cable assemblies for the upgraded Storage Ring (SR) at the Advanced Light Source (ALS-U) project. This will result in a fixed-price subcontract.
Scope of Work
The primary scope involves the production of approximately 1,120 high-frequency, low-loss semi-rigid 141 coaxial cable assemblies with right-angle SMA connectors. These cables must be suitable for accelerator environments, withstand vacuum bake-out temperatures up to 200 °C, and meet stringent performance standards. Key technical requirements include:
- Precisely controlled impedance and phase matching (+-10 picosecond).
- Low insertion loss (S21 > 0.97 from 0.05 – 18 GHz).
- Non-magnetic properties (µ ≤ 1.08).
- Right-angle SMA connectors rated up to 200 °C.
- 100% production testing per the Acceptance Criteria List (ACL).
Deliverables & Schedule
Deliverables include the 1,120 tested cable assemblies, a First Article Inspection Report (FAIR), test results, and shipping documentation. Specific cable lengths are 525 mm, 650 mm, and an optional range of 525-725 mm.
- First Article: Within 6 weeks After Receipt of Order (ARO).
- Production Batch 1: Within 6 weeks after first article approval.
- Production Batch 2: Within 12 weeks following completion and approval of Hold Point 2.
