Quick Summary
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), under the Department of the Interior, is soliciting quotes for the replacement of the C3 chiller at its Columbia Environmental Research Center (CERC) in Columbia, MO. This is a 100% Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) Set-Aside. Quotes are due by April 30, 2026, at 1700 CT.
Scope of Work
The project involves the removal and replacement of an existing 40-ton air-cooled chiller at the CERC Hall Building (C3). The contractor will furnish and install a new two-circuit, modulating 30-ton chiller with an internal recirculation pump and integrated variable frequency drive (VFD). The scope also includes replacing existing 20-ton cooling and pre-heat coils, all isolation valves for the chiller loop, installing a new equipment disconnect, water treatment, and upgrading the chilled water recirculation pump with a VFD. New electrical circuits and BACnet communications (using Automated Logic-supported equipment) are also required if necessary.
Offerors may propose one of two technical solutions:
- Solution A: Replacement of the chiller and chilled water coil, with the addition of a glycol feed pump. This applies if it's a water-cooled chiller, sized to 20 tons, and does not require alarm interconnection.
- Solution B: Use of a 40-ton condensing unit and replacement of the chilled water coil with a 20-ton evaporator coil for redundancy. Proposals must clearly demonstrate that the chosen approach meets all mandatory performance requirements.
