• Fire Restrictions: The Forest Service will track fire restriction-related work pauses, and while time lost will be noted, the contract period accounts for average lost time. Completion is expected on schedule.
• Residual Woody Debris (CWD): The 5-15 tons of residual CWD does not include material in piles. Excess CWD (over 15 tons/acre) not meeting specifications for removal (9" at center point and 10' piece, Decay class 1-3) will be piled. Decay Class 4 CWD may also be piled if needed.
• NMDOT Permitting: Contractors are responsible for submitting the NMDOT Roadway Work Permit request directly. The Forest Service has communicated with NMDOT regarding traffic control documents and the closure of NM-536, with NMDOT expecting the permit request for summer 2026 operations.
• Tree Cutting for Skid Trails: Skid trail locations and access routes require prior agreement. Cleared sizes should not exceed what's needed for efficient skidding. The Forest Service will approve or work with contractors on routes to avoid cutting healthy trees (18" plus), but may authorize cutting for safety or clearing limits.
• Hazard Trees: The distance to the highway for hazard trees is not specified individually but is assessed based on the potential impact zone (1.5-2 times tree height on slopes >15 degrees) and visual inspection.
• Basal Area (BA) Variability: BA will be averaged across the cutting unit, especially in areas where the DxP provision doesn't meet the required basal area due to the 18.0” diameter cap. A 90% AQL allows for flexibility, but rework may be required if areas are missed or not treated to standard.
• Stump Heights: Flexibility may be allowed for stump heights in rockier areas, with specifications for Biomass (12" for >=12" DBH, 6" for <=12" DBH) and potential adjustments for safety and efficient logging.
