Statement of Work (SOW) / Performance Work Statement (PWS)

This Performance Work Statement (PWS) outlines the requirements for conducting a Class III cultural resources inventory and site recording on Bureau of Land Management (BLM) administered land for the Thorn Creek and Carey-Kimama Fuel Breaks project. The primary goal is to identify, evaluate, and analyze potential effects to historic properties as part of a federal undertaking under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA).

• Inventory of approximately 2,886.76 acres identified as the Area of Potential Effects (APE), encompassing a 400-foot corridor along 67.32 miles of existing roads.

• Conduct a Class III intensive pedestrian survey across the entire APE.

• Record all archaeological sites to current standards, including those previously determined Eligible or Not Eligible for the NRHP, and make recommendations regarding their eligibility.

• Perform a records search and background research, including review of previous surveys and historic maps.

• Digitally record all sites and linear cultural resources using GPS, with site polygons and feature/artifact data.

• This is a non-collection inventory; diagnostic artifacts will be sketched or photographed and left in place.

• Prepare a formal report including site descriptions, eligibility assessments, and a summary of findings.

• Transect intervals not to exceed 30 meters, tightly controlled using GPS.

• A non-disclosure agreement will be required for all contractor employees.

• Government-furnished materials will include GIS data, previous inventory records, and relevant dictionaries/schemas.
