Quick Summary

The Regional Contracting Office MCIWEST is conducting market research to identify contractors capable of providing custom-fitted, mil-spec musical instrument cases for the 3rd Marine Air Wing Band. This is a Sources Sought notice, and responses will inform potential future solicitations. Capabilities statements are due by March 20, 2026, 08:00 AM PST.

Scope of Work

The requirement is for various custom-fitted musical instrument cases, primarily SKB brand or similar, designed to withstand commercial air travel conditions. Key items include:

  • French Horn Cases: 3 fixed bell (Conn 8D), 3 screw bell (Conn 8D)
  • Saxophone Cases: 3 alto (Yamaha YAS-62), 2 tenor (Yamaha YTS-62), 1 baritone (Yamaha YBS-62)
  • Brass Cases: 2 euphonium (Wilson 2950), 6 tenor trombone (Bach Model 42), 1 bass trombone (Bach Model 50), 10 double trumpet
  • Non-Recurring Engineering (NRE) Setup Fee: 9 units for custom foam inserts.

All cases must be injection-molded, mil-spec, high-strength polypropylene copolymer resin, water and dust-tight, and resistant to impact, corrosion, UV light, solvents, and fungus. They must feature trigger release latches, a hinge lid, wheels, and snap-down cushion grip handles. Interiors require custom-cut 2 lb polyethylene foam inserts to securely hold the specified instruments.
