Quick Summary
The USDA Forest Service is soliciting proposals for the Dave Wood DxP IRSC project, a Total Small Business Set-Aside for forest restoration and hazardous fuels reduction within the Wildland Urban Interface of the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre, and Gunnison National Forests in Montrose, CO. This is a BPA Call Order under the R2 Rocky Mountain Restoration Project BPA. The project aims to increase forest health and vigor and mitigate catastrophic wildfire threats. Proposals are due June 12, 2026, at 1400 MDT.
Scope of Work
This project involves timber thinning, removal, and slash treatment across 135 mandatory acres and 47 optional acres, with associated road maintenance. Key objectives include increasing forest health and reducing hazardous fuels. Key tasks include:
- Thinning ponderosa pine plantations to an average spacing of 16x16 feet, maintaining a basal area of 70-90 sq ft/acre. Trees over 12" DBH are generally not to be cut unless diseased.
- Mechanical cutting, skidding, and decking of designated timber.
- Slash treatment via mechanical mastication (less than 5" diameter) or chipping and removal.
- Road maintenance on NFSR 510, 536, and 510.3C, including ditch cleaning, surface blading, and drainage structure upkeep. This is a contractor responsibility without direct compensation.
- Timber removal is subject to agreement, with specific pricing for Ponderosa Pine sawtimber ($1.00/CCF) and non-sawtimber ($0.25/CCF). Operations must adhere to environmental protection measures and a detailed Fire Prevention and Control Plan. A Contract Area Map (Appendix D) visually delineates the project limits and features.
