- Capacity to design a multimillion-dollar museum exhibition experience of similar size and scope.
- Experience working with diverse personnel (e.g., content developers, architects, curators, engineers, media producers).
- Prior experience (past seven years) designing for at least three complete museum or very complex museum exhibits that integrated objects, images, and multimedia.
- Each example must have a total exhibition footprint of at least 35,000 sq./ft., with at least one larger than 45,000 sq./ft.
- At least one example must have been fabricated and completed.
- Subcontractor performance cannot satisfy the prime contractor’s minimum requirement.
- Vendors must be registered in SAM by August 15, 2026.
Contract & Timeline
- Contract Type: Firm Fixed-Price for the 10% Concept Design, with priced options for additional design phases.
- Estimated Fabrication Budget: $100,000,000 to $130,000,000 (excludes design, collections, shipping, conservation).
- Response Date: May 18, 2026, 1:00 PM ET.
- Anticipated Award: September 2026.
- Published Date: April 27, 2026.
Submission & Evaluation
- Proposals must be submitted via email to Debra Berke (berked@si.edu).
- Technical and business proposals must be submitted as two separate files.
- Evaluation will prioritize technical factors (approach, management plan, firm profile/personnel, past performance) over cost.
- An amendment provides extensive responses to bidder questions, clarifying aspects of past performance, proposal format, evaluation criteria, scope, and various technical and administrative details. Bidders should review this amendment carefully.
