Canines must meet stringent requirements:
- Breed/Type: Labrador retriever (service or field trial, no silver), 12-24 months old, altered male or female (no previous pregnancies).
- Temperament: Even-tempered, obedient, outgoing, confident, inquisitive, strong food drive, physical stamina, environmental stability, ability to work independently, non-aggressive, stable character, comfortable in various environments, no fear of heights/moving objects, strong olfactory drive.
- Health: Pristine health, free from acute/chronic diseases, vaccinated (DHLPP, Rabies, Bordetella), free from parasites/infections/viruses/injuries/malnutrition. Specific disqualifying medical conditions include fractured teeth, hip/elbow dysplasia, chronic GI issues, and heart/thyroid conditions.
- Behavioral Soundness: Must not display apprehension to loud noises or unfamiliar surroundings, not submissive/shy, no issues from electronic training collars, and no prior exposure to other target odors.
Canines will undergo a four-phase evaluation: Documentation Review, Training Suitability Testing, Medical Screening, and Training.
