Quick Summary

The National Institute on Aging (NIA), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), intends to re-compete a requirement for the Development and Maintenance of an Aged Rodent Tissue Bank. This presolicitation indicates a future cost-reimbursement contract for collecting, storing, inventorying, and distributing biospecimens from aged rodents to support gerontological research. The procurement will be conducted under full and open competitive procedures (unrestricted). The RFP (75N95026R00064) is anticipated to be released on or about May 6, 2026, with proposals due approximately 30 days thereafter.

Scope of Work

The objective is to continue the operation of the Aged Rodent Tissue Bank, a critical resource for scientists studying the biology of aging. The contractor will be responsible for:

  • Maintaining existing biospecimens (frozen tissues at -80°C, tissue blocks at RT).
  • Collecting, storing, and inventorying new biospecimens (tissues and fluids) from NIA Rodent Colonies (mice and rats).
  • Generating new tissue arrays.
  • Distributing biospecimens to investigators.
  • Maintaining and expanding the bibliography associated with distributed biospecimens.
  • Maintaining a comprehensive digital inventory of bank assets. The bank currently holds approximately 40,000 frozen samples and 2,000 tissue blocks, originating from various strains and age groups of mice and rats, collected under standardized conditions to meet diverse molecular and histochemical protocols. This effort supports the 3Rs principles for ethical animal research.
