Purpose & Scope
This requirement is for laboratory testing of urgent/emergent, highly specialized, and/or limited viability patient specimens that cannot be performed at the VA facility. Services include, but are not limited to, Mycobacteria Stains, Microbiology Specimens, Histology Testing, Immunoperoxidase Stains, Transplant Compatibility Testing, Therapeutic Drugs, Bone Marrow Workup, Clotting Factors, Co-Oximetry Blood Gas, and Platelet Function assays. STAT/emergent testing requires a turnaround time of 24 hours or less. The contractor must also provide specimen courier services, including twice-daily pickups (approx. 09:00 and 16:00) and on-demand pickups for STAT, night, and weekend needs. Special collection kits, containers, media, and biohazard bags must also be provided. The contracting laboratory must be available seven days a week, 24 hours a day for STAT urgency.
