Quick Summary
The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Office of Corporate Research, Technology and Innovation (HRTM) Research Team has issued a Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) for its Exploratory Advanced Research (EAR) Program. This 5-year Open BAA seeks research and development proposals to deliver practical solutions for high-priority problems in highway transportation, with a focus on digital twin applications. This is an unrestricted opportunity.
Purpose & Scope
The BAA aims to solicit a variety of solutions that support the FHWA EAR program by advancing higher-risk research in emerging science and engineering. The goal is to achieve dramatic changes in highway transportation safety, mobility, state of good repair, or environmental stewardship. Key digital twin program areas include, but are not limited to:
- Construction automation and safety
- Management of assets (e.g., pavements and structures)
- Active roadside safety systems for pedestrians and other vulnerable road users
Proposals should focus on research and development, primarily targeting Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) 3 through 8.
