Statement of Work (SOW) / Performance Work Statement (PWS)

To remove hazardous, potentially hazardous, and downed trees and limbs from trails, roads, and parking lots at Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park (KEMO) in Kennesaw, GA.

• Removal of approximately 337 hazardous trees (16-36 inches diameter at breast height) and hazardous limbs as directed by the National Park Service (NPS).

• Trees and limbs to be removed will be clearly marked by NPS.

• Services include tree felling, limb trimming, chipping and hauling debris to an NPS-approved disposal area, or spreading debris as directed.

• Stumps must be cut to no more than 1 inch above ground level.

• Specific types of removal include:

  • Type A: Felling Only
  • Type B: Felling & Debris Spreading
  • Type C: Felling, Debris Removal & Traffic Control (logs removed, stumps cut low, site restored)
  • Type D: Felling, Climbing, Debris Removal & Traffic Control (logs removed, stumps cut low, site restored, includes climbing)

• 100% of marked trees removed without damage to unmarked trees or park resources.

• 100% compliance with stump height requirement.

• All debris cleared from designated work zones within 48 hours of falling.

• No remaining limbs lower than 12 feet above trails and 14 feet above roads, unless directed otherwise.

• Trimming completed within 5 business days of task order issuance.

• Zero incidents of earthwork disturbance.

• Zero recordable safety incidents attributable to contractor negligence.

• 100% of workers wearing required PPE.

• Project Site: Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park, 905 Kennesaw Mountain Drive NW, Kennesaw, GA, 30152.

• Period of Performance: Anticipated 6 to 12 months, approximately mid-June to mid-December. Work will be ordered on an as-needed basis, typically once per month.

• Contractor must be a Certified Arborist ISA or have an equivalent on staff with at least three years of practical experience.

• Highly recommended for bidders to visit the worksite.

• Compliance with OSHA, NPS safety policies, and all applicable federal, state, and local laws.

• Protection of historic earthworks (heavy equipment must not operate within 5 feet).

• Contractor must maintain liability and workers' compensation insurance.

• Adherence to hauling restrictions on park roads.

• Contractor working hours: Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM, unless otherwise approved.

• Entrance roads and parking lots must remain open for public use.

• Appropriate warning signs must be posted.

• Use of best management practices for tree removal and trimming.

• Equipment must be in good and safe working condition.

• Daily safety briefing required.
