Fit reasons
- NAICS alignment with historical contract wins in similar service areas.
- Scope strongly matches core technical capabilities and delivery model.
Risks
- Past performance thresholds may require one additional teaming partner.
- Potential clarification needed on staffing minimums before bid/no-bid.
Next steps
Validate eligibility requirements, assign capture owner, and schedule partner outreach to confirm teaming strategy before submission planning.
Quick Summary
The National Aeronautics And Space Administration (NASA) / NASA Shared Services Center (NSSC) intends to issue a sole source contract to POROUS METAL FILTERS INC for Face Sheets for 9x15 Acoustic Boxes for a wind tunnel. This is a Special Notice to determine if other qualified sources exist. Capabilities are due by April 2, 2026.
Scope of Work
NASA/NSSC requires specialized Face Sheets for 9x15 Acoustic Boxes, critical for the 9x15 wind tunnel test section at NASA/Glenn Research Center (GRC). These panels provide anechoic properties and smooth surface characteristics for sensitive acoustic testing. Key specifications include:
- Panel Construction: Woven wire mesh (200x600 Dutch Twill 3041 stainless steel) diffusion bonded to a perforated 3041 stainless steel plate.
- Perforated Plate: 63% open area with 5/16" staggered round holes.
- Wire Mesh: .002" (200 mesh) x .0018" (600 mesh) wire thickness, with 600-mesh wires aligning with staggered hole direction.
- Dimensions: Minimum 48.5" x 48.5".
- Quantity: 25 panels each of 20-gauge and 16-gauge thickness.
- Tolerances: Extremely tight, including maximum acoustic permeability (20 cgs Rayls), flatness (½ inch and less than 1/16 inch per foot), and diffusion bonding limitations.
- Quality: Panels must be free of contaminants, discoloration, and defects like wrinkles, rips, or peeling wire cloth.
