Scope of Work
This opportunity aims to develop and demonstrate next-generation advanced computing technology with 100-1,000x greater energy efficiency to address the increasing energy demands of AI, data-intensive workloads, and edge computing. Key objectives include:
- Developing novel logic devices and architectures that surpass CMOS in energy efficiency and speed.
- Fabricating and engineering non-traditional transistor-like heterostructures.
- Designing and developing logic and computational circuits using these heterostructures.
- Performing theoretical analysis and modeling to guide device design.
- Demonstrating logic gates with picosecond switching speeds and one attojoule switching energy, with sufficient output voltage swing.
- Developing XOR gates and 4-bit adders in Phase 1, and a GPS signal acquisition code (correlator) in Phase 2.
- Demonstrating integrability and scalability at the systems level, and testing devices for operational reliability in high radiation environments.
Contract Details
- Contract Type: Other Transaction (OT) for Prototype project.
- Period of Performance: 18 months for Phase 1 (base), with an 18-month Phase 2 option, not exceeding 36 months total.
- Estimated Start Date: June 1, 2026.
- Set-Aside: Not applicable; open to Federally Funded Research and Development Centers (FFRDCs), University Affiliated Research Centers (UARCs), and Government Entities, with specific caveats. DARPA will not establish new contractual agreements with FFRDCs or Government entities, but may with UARCs.
