Fit reasons
- NAICS alignment with historical contract wins in similar service areas.
- Scope strongly matches core technical capabilities and delivery model.
Risks
- Past performance thresholds may require one additional teaming partner.
- Potential clarification needed on staffing minimums before bid/no-bid.
Next steps
Validate eligibility requirements, assign capture owner, and schedule partner outreach to confirm teaming strategy before submission planning.
Quick Summary
Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL), on behalf of the U.S. Department of Energy, is soliciting quotes for one (1) industrial-grade 1030 nm femtosecond fiber laser system. This system is intended for precision micromachining and nonlinear material processing research. This is a Full and Open Solicitation. Quotes are due by April 20, 2026, at 0800 E.T.
Scope of Work
The requirement is for a complete, fully integrated laser system, including a Ytterbium (Yb)-doped femtosecond fiber laser (or equivalent) operating near 1030 nm, a rack-mountable control unit, a compact optical head, and all necessary accessories. Key technical specifications include:
- Optical Characteristics: Center wavelength 1030 nm ± 10 nm, pulse duration < 500 fs, pulse energy > 40 µJ at ~500 kHz, average output power > 20 W, adjustable repetition rate (50 kHz to 500 kHz, up to 2 MHz at reduced energy), beam quality (M²) < 1.4.
- Stability: Long-term power stability < 1% RMS over 8 hours, pulse-to-pulse stability < 1% RMS.
- Safety: Class-4 laser system with appropriate interlocks and safety features, NRTL certified.
- Delivery: System to be delivered to BNL, Upton, NY, with an anticipated lead time of 12-14 weeks, not to exceed sixteen (16) weeks from order receipt.
