Scope of Work
The project involves mechanical (clamshell) dredging to remove approximately 180,000 CY of accumulated sediment from three federal navigation features: the entrance to Tokeland Marina, the entrance channel to Nahcotta, and the Bay Center entrance channel and basin. Minimum dredging depths vary from -10 ft to -15 ft MLLW. An additional 10,000 CY may be dredged in the Palix River thalweg to ensure transit depths.
Dredged material will be disposed of via bottom-dump barge at the Cape Shoalwater and/or South Channel open-water disposal locations within Willapa Bay. In-water work windows are specific to each location, generally from July 16, 2026, through various dates in early 2027 (e.g., Tokeland Marina until Feb 15, 2027; Bay Center until Sep 30, 2026).
Contractors should anticipate challenging conditions due to transit of the unmaintained Willapa Bar, dynamic shoals, strong tidal currents, and severe weather, especially during the performance window which includes the worst season for storms.
