Quick Summary

NASA/NSSC intends to issue a sole source contract to GYRO STABILIZED SYSTEMS LLC for the GSS Custom Camera and Lens Kit 516 S/N 0038 & 512X S/N 0052 and upgrade. This Special Notice is for market research, inviting interested organizations to submit capabilities by January 27, 2026, to determine if the procurement should be competitive.

Purpose

The primary objective is to modify NASA-owned Gyro-Stabilized Systems (GSS) C512 and C516 gimbals by integrating NASA-owned FLIR Boson cameras. This upgrade is crucial for enabling visual camera systems to spot returning spacecraft in the infrared spectrum, supporting the NASA Exploration Ground Systems (EGS) and Orion programs during the Landing and Recovery portion of the Artemis missions.

Scope of Work

The effort involves the integration of NASA-owned FLIR Boson cameras into existing GSS C512 and C516 camera systems. This includes the design, fabrication, integration, balancing, and testing of new hardware. Key requirements are to provide live FLIR Boson video output, enable precise bore-sighting adjustment, and supply a protective cover (Snout) for environmental protection against wind, rain, and dust. The design must ensure protective glass does not impede optical performance, allow internal cameras to roll +/- 90 degrees (when the snout is not installed), and enable camera system roll lockouts (when the snout is installed). It must also allow adjustable roll lockout for the visual camera system in "portrait" or "landscape" modes, ensure the design does not reduce the overall lookup angle, and guarantee the FLIR Boson integrated system and hardware are removable by the operator. The visual camera system must remain operational with its original snout and maintain balance when the FLIR Boson system is removed.
