Quick Summary

The USDA Forest Service is soliciting a BPA Call Order for a Heritage Survey and Cultural Resource Inventory at the Rabbit Ears Manganese Mine Site in Jackson County, Colorado. This opportunity requires a Class III intensive pedestrian cultural resource inventory and National Register Evaluation, with an objective to remediate historic mining activity. Responses are due by 5:00 PM MST on May 22, 2026.

Scope of Work

This call order requires a contractor to conduct a Class III, intensive pedestrian cultural resource inventory of approximately 22 acres at the Rabbit Ears Manganese Mine site. The primary objective is to identify and record archaeological resources, determine the mine's boundary, research its history for National Register eligibility, and ultimately support the remediation of contaminated materials from the 1950s manganese mine. The site is located on USFS land, east of Steamboat Springs, and has identified heavy metal contaminations (Arsenic, Manganese) in portions of the former mine site. The contractor must obtain a Permit for Archaeological Investigations on Forest Service System lands.

Evaluation Criteria

Award will be based on a two-step process:
