Scope of Work
The selected vessel will be responsible for:
- Transporting up to 12 passengers from Oahu, HI to Nihoa Island.
- Landing and extracting personnel and gear for field camps lasting 1 to 16 days.
- Providing room and board for all passengers.
- Occasionally transporting wildlife and wildlife resources with appropriate permits.
- Operating a vessel suitable for open-ocean travel, with sufficient fuel, water, and food stores for at least 21 days of operations, maintaining a minimum cruising speed of 8 knots.
- Complying with PMNM regulations, including vessel permits, rodent, hull, and ballast water inspections.
- Demonstrating experience in adverse sea conditions and landing personnel/gear on rocky ledges.
- Providing two operational small boats (e.g., Zodiac) with backup engines, capable of safe maneuverability in near-shore surf zones and rocky landings.
- Ensuring adequate crew, including trained small boat operators and a cook/steward.
- Adhering to waste management (MARPOL) and biosecurity protocols (rodent-free, ant-free, visual inspection for algal remnants).
- Carrying Wreck Removal and Pollution insurance.
- Providing a first-aid kit, AED, small boat emergency kit, vessel Stability Report, and a Category I 406 MHZ EPIRB.
