Quick Summary

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH), is conducting market research through a Sources Sought notice to identify qualified small businesses capable of providing high-power RF amplifiers for therapeutic ultrasound (histotripsy) research. The amplifiers are needed to generate and characterize acoustic pressure and temperature fields. Capability statements are due June 2, 2026, by 12:00 PM Eastern Time.

Purpose & Scope

This is a market research effort, not a solicitation, to gauge industry capabilities. The FDA requires two specific RF amplifiers: the E&I 2400L Power Amplifier and the E&I A300 Power Amplifier, or equivalent. These amplifiers must meet stringent specifications for frequency range (10 kHz to ≥35 MHz), rated power (minimum 400W from 10 kHz-10 MHz, 300W from 10 MHz-35 MHz), gain (55 dB minimum), and other technical requirements including Class A operation and compatibility with most signal generators.

Required Deliverables

In addition to the amplifiers, the successful vendor will be required to provide technical documentation, installation and training at the FDA White Oak Campus in Silver Spring, MD, a three-year manufacturer's warranty, and an option for a one-year extended warranty.

Submission Requirements

Interested small businesses should submit a capability statement (limited to 10 pages, PDF or Word format) via email to the listed Point of Contact. The statement must include:

  • Company information (name, address, POC, contact details).
  • Business size and socioeconomic status under NAICS Code 334220.
  • Confirmation of capability to provide the specified amplifiers or equivalents (as a manufacturer or reseller).
  • Up to three examples of past performance providing similar equipment within the last three years.
  • Confirmation of ability to deliver, install, and train within 90 days.
  • Confirmation of the 3-year standard and optional 1-year extended warranty.
  • Confirmation of active SAM.gov registration and Unique Entity Identifier (UEI).
