Quick Summary

The Defense Health Agency (DHA), through the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth (NMCP), has issued a Request for Information (RFI) to identify potential sources for Human Cadavers and associated logistics and final disposition services. This RFI is for planning purposes only and does not constitute a solicitation. The current contract for these services expires on June 30, 2026. Responses are due May 13, 2026, by 5:00 PM EST.

Scope of Work

The requirement is for the supply of Whole Body Ethanol-Preserved Human Cadavers and Whole Body Formaldehyde-Embalmed Human Cadavers, along with comprehensive support services. These services include: supply, delivery, and management of cadavers; 24/7 technical support; management of all regulatory compliance for transport; and final disposition of remains, including cremation and return of ashes. The cadavers are intended for physician and residency programs at NMCP, ensuring compliance with Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) requirements and supporting military medical readiness. Performance standards require ethanol-preserved cadavers to be unfrozen, viable for immediate use, and capable of room temperature storage. Formaldehyde-embalmed cadavers must be fully arterially embalmed for 6 months of dissection longevity. Replacements for unsuitable specimens must be provided within one week.
