Quick Summary
The Space Systems Command (SSC), Assured Access to Space (AATS), Small Launch and Targets Division (SSC/AAMX) is conducting market research through a Request for Information (RFI) for the demilitarization of Minuteman II (MMII) Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) motors. This RFI seeks industry capabilities for the washout or other demilitarization methods for SR-19 and M55 motors. This is a follow-up to Sources Sought Notice ID "RSLP-Demil2025." Responses are due May 15, 2026.
Scope of Work
The objective is to gather detailed information on available solutions, methods, technologies, and vendor capabilities to perform demilitarization of MMII SR-19 and M55 motors to 5X certification. The contractor will need to demilitarize removed components in accordance with DoDI 4140.01 and 4160.28 Defense Logistics Agency requirements.
Key tasks include:
- Receiving and storing MMII motors and components.
- Validating motor breakdown and rubble processing for SR-19 and M55 stages, including handling Ammonium Perchlorate (AP) laden water.
- Ensuring all waste streams adhere to local and federal environmental standards.
- Reporting work progress and submitting required documentation.
The Government estimates a minimum of 12 motors annually, with a maximum of 48 motors annually, until completion. This includes a minimum of 91 SR-19 motors (15K lbs, 14 ft, 6AL-4V Titanium case) and 87 M55 motors (54K lbs, 25 ft, D6AC Steel case). Potentially, an additional 41 SR-19 and 63 M55 motors may require demilitarization.
