Quick Summary
The Department of Defense is hosting an Industry Day for the replacement of air compressors in Building 65 at Wright Patterson AFB, OH. This special notice aims to gather industry interest and provide information for a project to upgrade the aging air compressor system at the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL/RAVZ). The Industry Day is scheduled for June 24, 2026.
Scope of Work
The objective is to replace the existing, unreliable air compressor system in Building 65 with a new, fully redundant, and reliable system to mitigate operational risks. The scope includes providing all labor, materials, tools, and equipment for a turnkey replacement. This involves disconnecting, removing, and disposing of two existing air compressors and two dryers, then providing and installing two new oil-free rotary screw air compressors and two new air dryers. Associated piping, electrical connections, and control systems will also be installed. A critical requirement is to ensure at least one compressor remains operational throughout the project to minimize downtime.
Key Requirements
- Equipment Removal & Disposal: Disconnect and remove two Ingersoll Rand Nirvana air compressors, one Ingersoll Rand air dryer, one Zeks air dryer, and associated filters. Dispose of all items in accordance with regulations.
- New Equipment Specifications: Install two (2) oil-free, rotary screw, air-cooled compressors (min. 400 CFM at 125 psig each) and two (2) air-cooled dryers (min. 490 CFM each). A new prefilter system compatible with the new compressors is also required.
- Installation: Modify existing pads, install new equipment in specified locations, and install new piping, valves, and supports. Piping must allow independent isolation. Electrical work must comply with NEC and local standards.
- Control System: Provide a master control system for managing compressors and dryers, supporting automated lead/lag functionality, and alternating lead units based on run hours. Compressors must have Modbus protocol communication outputs.
- Phased Installation: A phased approach is mandatory to ensure continuous facility operations. Any required shutdowns must not exceed four (4) hours and require government approval.
- Training: Provide up to four (4) hours of comprehensive training on operation and routine maintenance for up to three (3) government employees.
- Final Deliverables: Fully installed, commissioned, and operational system; O&M manuals; and completed training.
