Quick Summary
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) intends to award a firm-fixed priced purchase order on a sole source basis to Excelitas Technologies Corp. for Maintenance Support for NIST 2m and 6-Port SPHERE UV Lamp Systems. This notice is an Intent to Sole Source, not a solicitation. Interested parties must submit capabilities by May 21, 2026. The intended period of performance is two years, from September 21, 2026, through September 20, 2028.
Purpose & Justification
NIST requires specialized maintenance for its proprietary 2m and 6-Port SPHERE UV Lamp Systems, which are critical for projects in the NIST EL Infrastructure Materials Group. The UV lights (Excelitas Technologies Corp. I600 or LH6) are proprietary to Excelitas, which is identified as the sole provider of maintenance and parts. Any repair by unauthorized vendors could void the warranty. Therefore, NIST intends to acquire these services from Excelitas Technologies Corp. under FAR 12.102(a) and 41 USC 1901.
Scope of Work
The contractor will provide support for UV light systems associated with the NIST 2m and two 6-Port SPHEREs at the NIST campus in Gaithersburg, MD. Services include:
- Annual Preventative Routine Maintenance: One on-site visit per year to replace consumable parts (magnetrons, bulbs, dichroic reflectors) per manufacturer specifications. Includes travel, labor, and supplies.
- As-Needed Maintenance: Evaluation of system condition, ensuring optimal operation, minor repairs, cleaning, and operator training. This can be performed on-site or at the contractor's Gaithersburg facility (NIST transports equipment).
- One Annual Line-Down Support Service: Includes travel, labor, supplies, and a loaner system to restore full operation after a line-down event.
- Telephone and Email Support: Unlimited support during business hours.
- Reporting: Provision of repair plans in advance and repair reports within five days of completion.
