Work includes replacing existing CMP culverts with HDPE smooth wall pipe, installing base material, new pavement, and compacted dense-grade aggregate for shoulder protection.
- Canal Campground: Milling and replacing approximately 22,000 square yards of roadway (3 miles) and 3,000 square yards of parking area across nine parking areas. This includes milling and replacing the top 2 inches of pavement, site preparation, tack coat application, and potential base course repair. Twelve corrugated metal pipes (CMP) will also be removed and replaced with smooth wall HPDE corrugated pipes.

Key Requirements & Challenges
Work must adhere to Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) Standards, KYTC SSRBC, and DOT regulations. A critical challenge is that work cannot begin until after the campground and recreation areas close for the season and must be completed before they reopen in the following spring. All construction performance must follow Engineer Manual (EM) 385-1-1, USACE Safety and Health Requirements Manual, and all Federal, State, and local laws.
