Quick Summary
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), specifically the Fuels and Energy Section (ANG-E283), is conducting a Sources Sought / Market Survey to identify potential sources for a flight testing aircraft. This aircraft will be used for testing experimental Research & Development (R&D) unleaded fuels at Atlantic City, NJ. The FAA is seeking information to determine competition levels and assist in developing an acquisition strategy. Responses are due by March 4, 2026.
Scope of Work
The FAA requires one Cessna high-wing aircraft for approximately one year of flight testing. Specific models include Cessna 172 (E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, M, N, P, or Q) or 182 (N, P, or Q), equipped with an updraft carbureted engine (O-470-U, O-360, O-320, or O-540). Key requirements for the aircraft include:
- Fixed landing gear.
- Compliance with all current Airworthiness Directives (ADs).
- Current annual inspection.
- Capability to be issued a special airworthiness certificate for unleaded fuels testing.
- Engine health preferably below Time Between Overhaul (TBO), with good internal health, acceptable oil consumption, good cylinder compression (>70/80psi hot differential), serviced magnetos, and no oil leaks. Engine logbook documenting history since new is required.
- Preference for aircraft with installed engine monitors (e.g., Garm G1275).
