Quick Summary

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) intends to negotiate on a sole source basis with MathWorks Inc. for MathWorks Enterprise Licenses and Maintenance Support. This acquisition is for NIST's Gaithersburg and Boulder campuses for a one-year period. This is a Special Notice and not a request for competitive quotations. Responses from interested parties are due by March 15, 2026, 8:00 a.m. ET.

Purpose & Justification

NIST requires MathWorks MATLAB and related Toolbox products for computation, visualization, and programming essential to its mission. The sole source determination is based on the critical need to maintain continuity of maintenance support, ensure uninterruptible and reliable service, and provide the latest software to NIST's user community. Multiple ongoing projects are dependent on current MATLAB runs and configurations; terminating its use would significantly interrupt research efforts. NIST researchers have found public domain look-alike products do not satisfy their needs. MathWorks, Inc. is identified as the only known vendor capable of providing the required software licenses and maintenance support.
