Quick Summary
The Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS), under the Department of Defense, has issued a Request for Quotes (RFQ) for Mouse Brain Neurohistology services. This requirement aims to assess neuroinflammation, senescence, autophagy, and blood brain barrier integrity in mouse brains following radiation exposure to identify mechanisms of Central Nervous System Delayed Effects of Acute Radiation Exposure (CNS DEARE). This is a Total Small Business Set-Aside. Quotes are due March 23, 2026, at 2:00 PM EST.
Scope of Work
The selected vendor will perform detailed mouse brain neurohistology, including:
- Embedding, slicing, and staining 40 mouse brains on the same plane.
- Sectioning brains at 30-40 microns thick.
- Performing specific staining on every 12th section (420µm intervals), including:
- Blood Brain Barrier Compromise (BBB) Stain with Thionine counterstain.
- Iba1 Immunofluorescence double-labeled with Lamp-1 Immunofluorescence, counterstained with Blue fluorescent stain.
- Cover slipping, labeling, serially ordering, and boxing slides.
- Shipping finished slides and, approximately 30 days later, unstained, free-floating sections to USUHS. The study should adhere to Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) principles, though full GLP reports are not required. USUHS will provide 40 fixed and stored mouse brain hemispheres as Government Furnished Equipment (GFE).
