Fit reasons
- NAICS alignment with historical contract wins in similar service areas.
- Scope strongly matches core technical capabilities and delivery model.
Risks
- Past performance thresholds may require one additional teaming partner.
- Potential clarification needed on staffing minimums before bid/no-bid.
Next steps
Validate eligibility requirements, assign capture owner, and schedule partner outreach to confirm teaming strategy before submission planning.
Quick Summary
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), specifically the NASA Shared Services Center (NSSC), intends to award a sole source contract to MICROCHIP TECHNOLOGY INC for the procurement of MSE Lite Assembly FPGA. This notice serves as a combined synopsis/solicitation and a sources sought, inviting other interested organizations to submit capabilities and qualifications to determine if a competitive procurement is warranted. The requirement is for critical Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) for the PSI MSE Lite Project. Submissions are due by May 8, 2026, at 7:00 a.m. Central Standard Time.
Scope of Work
This requirement is for the procurement of 40 units of the MPF300TS-FC784M PolarFire™ Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) IC. These FPGAs are essential for the fabrication of the MSE Lite payload for the PSI MSE Lite Project and are critical components for the SCALPSS MSE-Lite electronics system. The specific part number is MPF300TS-FC784M, described as a PolarFire™ FPGA IC 388 21600666 300000 784 BBGA, FCBGA, operating from -55C to 125C. A Certificate of Conformance is required with the purchase.

Additional Notes
The government has determined that competition is impractical as Microchip Technology Inc. is considered the only vendor capable of meeting the electrical, thermal, and mechanical specifications within the project timeline. Using another vendor would cause significant delays (minimum 6 months development) and require modifications to current hardware and software systems. NASA FAR Supplement Clause 1852.215-84, Ombudsman, is applicable.
