Fit reasons
- NAICS alignment with historical contract wins in similar service areas.
- Scope strongly matches core technical capabilities and delivery model.
Risks
- Past performance thresholds may require one additional teaming partner.
- Potential clarification needed on staffing minimums before bid/no-bid.
Next steps
Validate eligibility requirements, assign capture owner, and schedule partner outreach to confirm teaming strategy before submission planning.
Quick Summary
The Department of the Navy, NIWC PACIFIC, under the Department of Defense, has issued a Special Notice for the Networked Expeditionary Routing and Exchange for Undersea Systems (NEREUS). This effort seeks a prototype for a high-Technology Readiness Level (TRL) undersea networking capability to support distributed maritime operations, specifically for Seabed and Subsurface Warfare (SSW) missions. The project aims to enhance existing acoustic communications hardware with advanced networking and routing functionalities. Responses are due by February 19, 2026.
Scope of Work
The Government is seeking a prototype effort to develop and demonstrate a high-TRL undersea networking capability. This capability will support distributed maritime operations, with a focus on Seabed and Subsurface Warfare (SSW) mission needs. The project will:
- Leverage existing, fielded acoustic communications hardware.
- Extend this hardware with networking and routing functionality to enable reliable information exchange beyond simple point-to-point links.
- Support cooperative operation among unmanned underwater systems, fixed and mobile sensors, and expeditionary nodes deployed across wide maritime areas.
- Include system integration, laboratory, and at-sea demonstrations.
- Involve participation in deployment and recovery activities to validate operational feasibility, supporting the fielding of a scalable, resilient undersea networking capability.
