Quick Summary

The Naval History and Heritage Command (NHHC) hosted an Industry Day for the National Museum of the United States Navy (NMUSN) on June 4, 2025, at the Washington Navy Yard. This event aimed to update industry partners on future opportunities related to the new museum building and associated projects. It served as a forum for briefings, Q&A, and one-on-one sessions, with innovative ideas potentially influencing future solicitations. This is a Sources Sought notice, not a solicitation for proposals.

Event Details

The Industry Day took place on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, from 0900 to 1600, at the National Museum of the United States Navy, Building 76, Washington Navy Yard. The event targeted contractors and vendors interested in a wide range of services, including architecture, exhibit, visioning, lighting, landscape, site, and museum planning; strategic planning; artifact conservation, storage, and moving; publication, photography, interactive exhibit, educational, IT, security, food, visitor, and facilities services; and construction contracting. Firms were limited to two representatives.

Project Scope & Timeline

The NMUSN project is a multi-phase effort involving a new museum building and renovation of existing structures. Phase 1 includes approximately 100,000 sq ft of the main museum and Building 74 renovation, estimated at $255 million. Phase 2 covers another 100,000 sq ft of the main museum and Building 118 renovation, estimated at $277 million. Phase 3 involves a conference center, estimated at $68 million. Visioning is planned for FY25-26, with the Architect Design RFQ/RFP for the main museum building expected in Q2 FY26. Exhibit design bidding is anticipated around 2027, with a Phase 1 opening targeted for 2030.

Key Procurement Information

The Navy Museum Development Foundation (NMDF), managed by Orr Partners, is responsible for the museum building design and construction, procuring services via a private sector RFQ/RFP process. The NHHC is responsible for exhibit design and construction. NMUSN projects may utilize contract vehicles such as Fleet Logistics Command, USACE, or GSA, with solicitations posted on SAM.gov. Evaluation will consider past performance, understanding of requirements, and fair/reasonable pricing. Small businesses of all subcategories are encouraged to participate.

Logistics & Registration

Interested parties were required to RSVP by Tuesday, May 26, 2025, to Sonja Velaj (Sonja.velaj.civ@us.navy.mil) and Wesley Peters (wesley.b.peters.civ@us.navy.mil), providing attendee names, company, email, and phone numbers.
